Could Beckham be in bed with the FA?

John Terry ‘insits’ that Beckham can still play a key role at the World Cup, harrumphed the the Evening Standard today. David ‘Goldenballs’ Beckham seems to continue to be picked for England, even though he has been used primarily as a crowd pleaser, rather than a so called ‘super-sub’. Granted, there is a lot of argument for and against Beck’s inclusion in an England squad that could do to look towards developing the likes of Lennon and Walcot’s supposed raw talent. But what if there’s something else going on?

The FA is hemorrhaging money to the tune of millions, Sven Gõran-Eriksson left the England job with a nice tidy deal to pay his salary to the end of his contract.

It’s well known that Beckham increases crowd’s where ever he goes, recently in Cambridge, MA, USA he drew a ‘more than capacity crowd’ (probably the closest he’s allowed to get to the real Cambridge) but surely not for England games which are generally sold out anyway? Perhaps it’s shirt sales. Even though Becks sells a lot more underwear these days.

It seems that Fabio MUST play Beckham in all games at Wembley, despite the grimace on his face when he does so. I know he always looks like he’s gurning for Italy, but he seems even more furrowed when he has to bring GoldenBalls on the pitch. It’s as if someone is twisting his balls to do it.

Who knows. We won’t even be able to watch the next match against the Ukraine to find out if he plays or not thanks to that other story on broadcasting rights. Maybe he’s lost he’s allure for the TV….
